Atlanta Braves look to Venice for spring training?

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note:  Disney has been the home for the Atlanta Braves Spring Training since 1998 but things could be changing as their lease runs up in 2017.  The closest two teams to the Braves are also considering a move as the Houston Astros and the Washington Nationals are looking to move out of their current location.  Venice, Florida has risen to a topic of a possible landing spot for the Braves as it would be extremely closer to many teams and an easy travel.  Currently, Venice doesn’t have a stadium or at the moment, plans on building one.

"A source close to the Atlanta Braves says the Major League baseball team is looking relocate its spring training base when its lease in Orlando expires — and Venice is a possible destination."

"“The decision is still down the road, but Venice is a name that keeps coming up,” said Mark Bowman, who has covered the Braves on its official website at MLB.com since 2001. “Venice is certainly among the favorites.”Local government leaders, including Mayor John Holic, said they were unaware of any efforts to recruit the Braves."

Andruw Jones targets MLB return

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note:  Could a perfect situation arise?  Jones is very interested in playing in the major leagues again after hitting 25 home runs in Japan.  He is looking to play as a part-time outfielder/first baseman and a right-handed bat off the bench.  The Braves could use this…and what a great way to end his career back where it all started.

"Former Atlanta Braves slugger Andruw Jones is looking to return to Major League Baseball after playing two years in Japan, agent Scott Boras told ESPN.com on Monday.Jones, 37, made five All-Star teams and won 10 Gold Glove Awards in center field over parts of 17 seasons with the Braves, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers andChicago White Sox. He’s a .254 career hitter with 434 home runs and 1,289 RBIs in the majors."
