Atlanta Braves camp in Orlando, Florida opened it’s doors to the 2015 Spring Training on Friday morning for pitchers and catchers and just like that, baseball season is upon us.  Braves fans should have many things to look forward to during Spring Training – one of which is the fifth starting position battle in the rotation.

Over the offseason, Atlanta acquired many new faces that could compete for a rotation spot.  With a solid core of four – Alex Wood, Julio Teheran, Shelby Miller and Mike Minor – the Braves need to fill one more spot.

I’ve broken these players names down into three different tiers of what I feel as of February 25th – tier one has a really good chance to being the Braves fifth starter, tier two has an outside chance but unlikely, and tier three breaks down pitchers who the Braves will say “thanks for showing us what you’ve got, continue to progress in the minors”.

TIER THREE

Daniel Winkler – right handed pitcher

Williams Perez – right handed pitcher

Yean Carlos Gil – left handed pitcher

Tyrell Jenkins – right handed pitcher

Jason Hursh – right handed pitcher

TIER TWO

Cody Martin – right handed pitcher

James Russell – left handed pitcher

Josh Outman – left handed pitcher

Mauricio Cabrera – right handed pitcher

Sugar Ray Marimon – right handed pitcher

TIER ONE

Chien-Ming Wang – right handed pitcher

Eric Stults – left handed pitcher

Wandy Rodriguez – left handed pitcher

Manny Banuelos – left handed pitcher

Michael Foltynewicz – right handed pitcher

Over the next three slides, I breakdown tier one even more (everything depends on how they preform in bullpen session, live BP, live games and in the locker room) with my three favorites to win the job.
