Points to Note

More from Tomahawk Take

  • Contrary to standard – and even my own preference – these calendars are set up with Sunday on the far right.  This was done to make it easier to spot each weekend series, as all of them end on Sundays this year (yes: there are no “wrap-around” sets that end on a Monday at any point this season).
  • Since road teams traditionally wear their “road gray” uniforms, the road games on these schedules are shaded in gray.
  • Green dots mark the open dates to make them stand out better – making it easy to note that Atlanta is off for half the Thursdays over April and May, for instance.

There are two of the oddball inter-league home-and-home sets in 2015.  As usual, the Red Sox games happen on consecutive days:  2 in Boston followed by 2 in Atlanta on June 15-18.

The other set is with Tampa Bay, but that one is months apart:  May 19-20 in Atlanta and August 11-12 in Florida.

  • There are two dreaded trips to California:  the first is the last week of May – seven games vs. the Dodgers and Giants.  The other is against the Padres August 17-19.  After that – nothing west of the Mississippi River.
  • Longest road trips:
    • 10 days:  April 17-26 vs. Toronto, New York, and Philly (1 off day embedded)
    • 10 days: May 8-17 vs. Washington, Cincinnati, and Miami (1 off day embedded)
    • 10 days:  May 25-June 3 vs. LAD, San Francisco, and Arizona (10 games)
    • After that June 3rd trip, there are no trips longer than a week
  • Longest home stands:
    • 10 days, then an off day:  April 27-May 7 vs. Washington, Cincy, Philly.
    • 10 days, embedded off day:  August 24-Sept 2 vs. Colorado, the Yankees, Miami
    • 11 days, embedded off day: Sept 10-20
  • 16 of the last 22 games are at home (Sept. 10-Oct 4)

Braves start the season with divisional rivals almost exclusively through May 17th (exceptions: the Reds twice, plus Toronto for 3 games).

The inter-league matchups this year are with the entire AL East.

In June, Atlanta plays weekend series’ vs. the Pirates twice and the Mets twice.

There are four weekend sets vs. the Mets – 13 out of the 19 games played between those clubs are set up around a weekend.  Same for the Phillies.  Both of the Cubs series’ are on weekends.

The final series:  October 2-4 vs. St. Louis – in Atlanta.
