Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop and Box Score
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez made a great decision on Saturday night by putting Nick Markakis at the leadoff spot. Markakis is making great contact and getting on-base frequently so why not give him the most AB’s. Eric Young and Cameron Maybin have been struggling at the plate at the leadoff spot so the change was necessary. Maybe lighting the pressure off those guys and moving down in the order will be a positive for the Braves.

Cornely: Call-up by Atlanta Braves was pretty surreal
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: John Cornely hasn’t appeared on the mound yet for the Braves, but we are all anticipating his next outing. The 25-year-old will get his first chance in the big leagues. He shared his thoughts with Todd Shansey of when he first got the call.
"Cornely, a former Wofford pitcher, had just settled into his hotel room after a bus ride from Norfolk, Va., to Durham, N.C., with the Gwinnett Braves, the triple-A team for Atlanta. He saw that the call was from Gwinnett manager Brian Snitker.“I was like, ‘Oh, man. I wonder what he wants,’ ” Cornely said. “Honestly, it was like getting called to the principal’s office or something. I started thinking, ‘Did I miss something? Was I supposed to go to a meeting?’ ”No. That call was the call every baseball player wants. It was a call to the major leagues. Cornely was to pack his bags and fly out the next morning to join the Atlanta team in Philadelphia.“It was pretty surreal,” he said. “Not a lot of sleep was involved that night. I can tell you that.”"
Phillies shortstop Freddy Galvis amazes everyone with play of the season (VIDEO)
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Yes, a great play that was, but the best of the season? You can’t forget about the plays from Andrelton Simmons and Toronto’s Kevin Pillar‘s play in the mix…plus it’s still April. Galvis is a 25-year-old who is a great spark for a struggling Phillies team.
"Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg, a Hall of Fame second baseman, hard time understanding how shortstop Freddy Galvis finished off a defensive gem Saturday night that will be hard for anyone to top this season.“One of the better plays I’ve ever seen,” Sandberg marveled after a 5-2 Phillies loss to the Atlanta Braves.Galvis, a first-time starter this season with Jimmy Rollins traded over the winter, is known for making incredible defensive plays, but he outdid himself by ending the Braves sixth by robbing Nick Markakis out of a hit.Your browser does not support iframes."
