What are Atlanta Braves options with newly acquired Bronson Arroyo?

Last year on July 15th, my wife and I were celebrating our 8th year of marriage.  We were traveling up the coast of California, staying in a cabin in Big Sur and taking on all of life’s adventures one scary curve at a time on Highway 1.  I insisted that I drive due to my severe bouts with motion sickness, and there were times when I was absolutely TERRIFIED going around those corners with little to no shoulder and no barricades.  The joke of the week was, “One seizure away from certain death”.  Yes, probably in poor taste and I apologize to anyone in advance for the insensitivity, but when confronted with a less than desirable situation all judgment goes out the window like yesterday’s gum.

No matter how nervous I made my wife or my brother and sister-in-law, who had to endure my driving, I’m sure it did not compare to what Bronson Arroyo was going through that day.  Only 14 games started into his Arizona Diamondbacks career, Arroyo had to go under the knife as he came down with the dreaded Tommy John bug.  Some folks just come down with the partial Tommy John bug but not Arroyo who doesn’t do anything in life without doing it full-blown. A full UCL tear was the diagnosis. The craziest thing about his injury is that it didn’t stop him from pitching, as he made 7 MORE STARTS!  Check out his quote in Yahoo’s article written by Mike Oz:

"“I was going to see if I could ride it without the ligament,” Arroyo said. “If this was the last year of my career, I could gut through it with anti-inflammatories and different things and it would be tough. But if I want to play after this year, it’s going to be impossible."

"“I don’t want to be 40 years old and possibly be a free agent and not have a ligament. I don’t think anyone’s going to want to sign me then.”"
