Atlanta Braves’ Future Home Looks Like this Right Now

[Cranes galore. Photos: Jonathan Phillips, Curbed Atlanta]

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves new stadium is currently being built in Cobb County and is schedule to be open in 2017.  Fans should be looking forward to this as it will turn into more than just a ball field, it will be an entertainment facility.  Many companies have already signed to join the Braves within the stadium.

"Thanks to a half-dozen cranes and some 250 daily workers, the future home of the “Atlanta” Braves is roughly one-fifth finished right now, with less than two years remaining before its spring 2017 big-league debut. As this Visual Journey proves, the $462 million project is definitely going vertical, but builders still have their work cut out for them. The site includes vistas of Kennesaw Mountain to one side and Cobb Galleria the other, hugged by interstates 75 and 285 and smaller thoroughfares such as Windy Ridge Parkway. Construction on the surrounding mixed-use component doesn’t appear to be nearly as active as the stadium itself. The project might not yet have the visual impact of its NFL counterpart downtown, but with the pricey foundation laid, it’s a safe bet this thing will quickly rise up, too."

Freddie Freeman’s MRI must not have gone well

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Bad news Braves fans, Freddie Freeman is probably heading to the DL because of his sprained right wrist.  Freeman sat out the past four games and had an MRI on Monday because the wrist wasn’t feeling any better.  The MRI must not have shown good results per Braves beat writer Mark Bowman.  Freeman was spotted at a couple places on Monday evening – meaning he wasn’t traveling with the team up to Washington.

"Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman‘s had an MRI on his sore right wrist yesterday, which has kept him out of action for four straight games. It must not have gone well, as David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Freeman did not take the flight to D.C. yesterday with the rest of the team for their series against the Nationals.Freeman, by far the most important hitter in the Braves’ lineup, is hitting .299/.367/.520 with 12 home runs and 41 RBI on the year. The Braves, despite being at .500 with a negative 13 run differential, are only two games behind Washington, against whom they open up a three-game series tonight. Not having Freeman for the series is a tough blow."

Weekend trade has little impact now for Atlanta Braves

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The trade that had the web buzzing this past weekend – Touki Toussaint and Bronson Arroyo to the Braves and the Diamondbacks received utility man Phillip Gosselin – is still being talked about.  Now that utility man Pedro Ciriaco has emerged as a solid player, Gosselin was expendable.  In return the Braves received Toussaint, the DBacks #1 draft pick in 2014.  Arroyo could return in August, but he may still not be ready then.

"All Atlanta Braves manager Freddie Gonzalez knows about Touki Toussaint is what he gathered from watching a YouTube video of the pitching prospect the day after the Braves acquired him from the Diamondbacks. There’s a chance Bronson Arroyo, the other player acquired in the trade late Saturday, never even pitches for the Braves because he’s still recovering from Tommy John surgery and has a contract buyout for next season.“I think the role Ciriaco has done here so far, we feel comfortable that he can do that job,” Gonzalez said Sunday."
