Braves Acquire Minor League Lefty

According to Bryant – Jon Anteola of the Fresno Bee, last night the Braves acquired lefty relief pitcher Mitch Lambson from the Astros for future considerations.

The Astros selected Lambson in the 19th round of the 2011 draft. According to his Baseball America draft report (subscription required):

"“Left hander Mitchell Lambson can spot his fastball and has an above-average changeup, but he’s underwhelming with velocity in the 85-86 mph range.”"

That’s the whole report – no really, that’s the whole thing. He must have learned something however as he’s been pretty successful working strictly in relief.  During his five seasons in the Houston system he posted a 2.79 ERA, 1.095 WHIP while striking out 265 and walking just 61 in 242 IP. That amounts to a 9.9 K/9 and 4.34 K/BB rate .

According to Baseball Reference since being promoted to AAA Fresno he’s appeared in 13 game and faced 70 batters posting a 2.60 ERA, 1.154 WHIP, striking out 12 and walking 5.  You can hear from Lambson and see a short clip bit of him pitching by clicking this link.

Though there’s no official word it’s logical to assume Lambson will report to Gwinnett to fill one of the spots vacated when Arodys Vizcaino and David Carpenter were promoted to the Braves this afternoon.
