Since the trade happened last night, we’ve been wondering who would be called up to replace Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson.

Looks like we’re getting one more than we’d bargained for.

Finally!  We’ve been without him since June 18th, and while we were told to expect that he might be back for the Philadelphia series late next week, that has all been cut short.  It seems that Freddie Freeman‘s hand has passed the tests of a batting practice and a full game (an 18-10 victory in the Gulf Coast League over the Yankees in which he went 2-4 with a homer and 3 RBI).  He’s probably jealous of all the hitting that those guys mustered.

In addition, the Atlanta Braves also announced the call-up of Adonis Garcia and Daniel Castro, names that Fred gave us the heads-up about as part of a discussion about the Uribe/Johnson trade.

But that’s 3 guys coming up to fill 2 spots, so the final announcement was that Joey Terdoslavich is being optioned back to Gwinnett.  Certainly that’s quicker than he was expecting, but the club’s brain trust apparently decided that the team would be better off with Garcia than with Terdoslavich at this time.

More from Tomahawk Take

Garcia has been playing third base as of late, and has a .284 average (.683 OPS) at AAA in 86 games.  Castro was hitting .264 (.631 OPS) playing the middle infield – mostly SS since there’s a pretty decent second baseman already there…. still,

Barring trades, I don’t know how long to expect these to be around – at this point, they are mostly present in case of emergency to give Fredi Gonzalez a couple more bench options.  Their playing time will undoubtedly be limited.

But the big news:  the return of #5.  Welcome back!
