Highlight Player of the Week:

We will stick in Carolina this week and take a look at Joseph Odom. He was a 13th round selection in 2013 out of college. Anyone looking at his season last year in high-A would not have foreseen this year’s offensive outbreak. Odom has slugged .500 this year for the Mudcats, including 7 home runs, which is more than he hit all last season. Odom’s defense is passable, albeit not excellent, and he is 23, so he’s not exactly a prospect “on the rise”, but in a Braves system basically begging for catching talent, it’s hard not to take notice. Odom has continued his walk and strike out rates at roughly the same rate as last season, but his bat is simply making much stronger contact. I haven’t noticed anything exceptionally different in Odom’s swing, but he is noticeably getting the meat of the bat on the ball more. This could be a one year anomaly in an otherwise “meh” career, but it could also be the start of something very interesting, so keep your eyes on this guy!
