Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Fredi Gonzalez decided to move Nick Markakis back to the leadoff spot on Monday night.  He told reporters that he’s been debating on doing this for a few days, but wanted to wait until Freddie Freeman returned to the lineup.  Markakis went 2-5 against his former team in his return to Baltimore.  The Braves offense just couldn’t get it going on Monday as it wasn’t until the 9th inning when Adonis Garcia hit a homer to put the Braves up 1-0.  Braves eventually lost the game in extra innings 2-1.

Wieters walks off with Markakis’ homecoming crown

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Alex Wood pitched a fantastic game on Monday evening, holding the Orioles to zero runs on three hits in 7.1 innings of work.  It could have arguably been his best performance of 2015.  Jim Johnson blew the save in the 9th for the Braves.  Johnson had converted seven straight save opportunities and he entered Monday having surrendered just one earned run over his past 20 appearances.  The Braves later lost the game in the 11th inning when Matt Wieters hit a walk off homer.

"After watching his team squander a few late-inning opportunities on Monday night at Camden Yards, Matt Wieters opened the bottom of the 11th inning with a home run off Luis Avilan to give the Orioles a 2-1 win over the Braves.“That was a pitch, in that situation, I just wanted to go out there and throw strikes,” said Avilan, who allowed the homer on a 1-0 fastball. “I didn’t want to fall behind that hitter and have to throw a fastball. I think it was a good pitch. It was just a little bit up. Tough things happen. Sometimes you’re going to be good and sometimes you’re going to be bad.”"

"The Braves gained a brief lead when Adonis Garcia tallied the game’s first run with his one-out home run in the ninth inning off Zach Britton."

Former Atlanta Braves golf in charity event in Rockford

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: A common theme in the Braves clubhouse is the love for golf.  It seems like everyone plays it, or tries to play.  Golf is a very popular sport for the males of America and many former/current players participate in golf fundraisers throughout the country.  This tournament happened at Egwani Farms Golf Course in Rockford.  The event was for Fostering Hope TN, an organization whose goal is to fill as many backpacks as possible with basic overnight supplies and clothing for children entering into the Tennessee foster care system.

"The ex-Braves that were on hand for the event were Greg McMichael (pitcher), Ryan Klesko (outfielder), Johnny Estrada (catcher) and Alejandro Pena (pitcher). Each of the former Braves played with John Smoltz, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame Sunday.Estrada told WVLT that Smoltz was the best pitcher he ever caught for.“(He’s) the most polished competitor I’ve ever had the chance to catch,” Estrada said."
