VIDEO: Atlanta Braves Hector Olivera Leaves Game After Getting Hit in the Elbow By Pitch

Atlanta Braves third baseman, Hector Olivera, left Tuesday nights game in the 5th inning after being hit in the left elbow by a pitch from Tanner Roark.

Olivera was wearing his normal “old school” protective elbow gear, but the ball must have hit in a bad spot of the padding.  He was 0-1 prior to being hit.

The hit by pitch would have looked a lot more serious had Olivera not be wearing the gear. However in this case, the gear didn’t seem to work.

Olivera stayed at home plate for a minute or so with Fredi Gonzalez and trainer Jeff Porter and then eventually walked to the dugout.

Jace Peterson came into the game for the Braves as a pinch runner for Olivera and played second base.  Daniel Castro moved over to third base after Olivera left.

The 30-year-old was called up to Atlanta on September 1st and continues to try to learn MLB pitching.  Olivera has actually raised his slash line up to .264/.2316/.417 prior to tonight’s game.  The big 6’2″ 220 prospect has two home runs, 11 RBIs, four runs, three doubles and a triple in the 22 games he’s played in.  He has only 11 strikeouts in 79 plate appearances and five walks.

As the season comes to a close in five days, the Braves injury list continues to grow.  With Freddie Freeman dealing with his wrist injury, Adonis Garcia dealing with back stiffness, all the other injuries that occurred this year and now Olivera…still uncertain if this any caused for concern.

As of now, I’m guessing Olivera will by day-to-day with elbow soreness.  Hopefully this isn’t anything serious, but once we get word we’ll update and give our opinion of the incident.
