Significant, reachable incentives are available for Bus Norris in 2016

AP SPORTS REPORT VIA YAHOO SPORTS

[ Ed. note:  rather than regurgitate their work directly, I’ll cite AP as the source and show you the incentives cited:

  • $250,000:  8 starts
  • $500,000: 12 total starts
  • $500,000: 15 total starts
  • $500,000: 20 total starts
  • $500,000: 24 total starts
  • $500,000: 28 total starts
  • $250,000: 40 relief appearances
  • $250,000: 50 relief appearances
  • $250,000: 60 relief appearances

Technically, that’s a total of $3.5 million possible incentives, but of course it’s not going to be possible to accomplish everything on the list.  The best Bud Norris could pull off is all of the Starter’s incentives, which total $2.75 million.

Norris’ base salary is $2.5 million.  He will get that regardless of whether he throws a regular-season pitch.  The Braves have recently started using these incentive-laden deals, perhaps as a means to help land some outside talent.  A.J. Pierzynski successfully cashed in such an incentive offer from last season, and he’s got another one for 2016.

Thus Norris’ maximum possible salary for 2016 is $5.25 million – and if he hits all of those marks, I think the Braves might be happy to write those checks. ]
