Atlanta Braves Right Hander Steve Janas

Who Is He?

Janas was a 6th round selection in the 2013 draft by the Braves out of Kennesaw State. Janas is a Georgia guy through and through, having grown up in Marietta, Georgia, and then attending Kennesaw State in Kennesaw, Georgia. The Braves sent Janas to Danville in the Appalachian League in his draft season, and though it was only 2 starts and 4 2/3 innings, the results were not pretty with a 5.79 ERA, 2.79 WHIP, and 4/3 BB/K ratio.

Janas spent the entire 2014 season with Rome in the South Atlantic League, making 18 appearances, 17 of them starts, throwing 97 2/3 innings. He tallied a 4.52 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 29/61 BB/K in his time in Rome, nothing to be terribly excited about, really.

Then came 2015’s time in Carolina. Janas opened the season in the Braves high-A affiliate in the Carolina League, and his numbers were simply ridiculous in that time, going 5-0 with a 0.49 ERA, 0.60 WHIP, and 4/24 BB/K in 37 innings over 6 starts. He missed nearly two months after the bus crash in Carolina this year, making his last start before the crash on May 6th and his first start back after the crash on June 27th. He was promoted soon after to AA Mississippi, but his excellence certainly didn’t follow with him from Carolina.

Next: Janas's scouting report

Janas made 13 starts for Mississippi and threw 68 1/3 innings, pitching to a 4.87 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with a 20/33 BB/K. Combined between Carolina and Mississippi, Janas went 7-8 over 19 starts and 105 1/3 innings, posting a 3.33 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 24/57 BB/K ratio. To put the difference in perspective, he walked 5 times more hitters in roughly 30 more innings in Mississippi than he had in Carolina.
