Wrist Fear?  Braves Freddie Freeman Leaves Game After Strikeout Swing

After opening the Grapefruit League campaign with a .429 average and 2 homers (2.095 OPS), we’d hoped that maybe… possibly… this wrist problem was behind Freddie Freeman.

And today against the Phillies at Disney’s Champion Stadium, this…

Okay, so maybe this is a precautionary thing and he simply opted to be conservative and end his day early?  This next report from O’Brien doesn’t really sound like that, if you want to try and read between the lines:

Mark Bowman’s take was almost identical to this.  The read from here is that this is a frustrated player that had just felt the kind of pain he’d had last Summer and wanted to take time to make sure before saying anything on the subject.

Obviously, we’re hoping that isn’t the case, but it is the only scenario that makes sense… though it seems we may have an update.

A More Optimistic View?

Sure hope that’s right.

UPDATE:  This sounds a ton better…

Props to Grant McAuley for the retweet on this… makes me feel guilty for fearing the worst.

Freeman missed 40+ games last season with this injured right (throwing) wrist and chose a non-surgical rehab during the off-season.  With his in the lineup, he produced a 3.4 fWAR season and 133 wRC+.  That despite chronic pain that he took multiple pain-killing injections for last year (last on December 20th) and a Plasma-Rich Platelets treatment.
