Atlanta Braves Prospects Continue to Impress
MLB.com posts a list of outstanding prospect performances throughout the week and Atlanta Braves prospects grab a spot or two on every list. Here’s a recap of the past week’s news.
Prospect team of the week
Every week John Mayo posts his prospect team of the week. I wrote about Max Poves being on that team a week ago, this week Rio Ruiz gets a nod for continuing to swing a hot bat.
The Braves No. 16 prospect hit in eight consecutive games from 17 April through 24 April including one three hit and three two hit performances involving two doubles a triple and a home run. Here’s that homer.
The 21 year old Ruiz had his struggles at the plate after coming over from Houston last season but the now 22-year-old Ruiz seems to have found his stroke. Even though his OPS slipped from over 1.000 to .845 that would still be a nice sort of level for a third baseman wouldn’t it?

Albies seeing you in Gwinnett
Ozzie Albies work last Tuesday earned him a mention in Mike Rosenbaum’s post about top prospect performers. While everyone was rightly talking about Orlando Arcia’s day the Braves No. 26 overall prospect nailed a his first homer of the season leading off the game. The 19 year old speedster went on to have 3-for-5 day adding a double and driving in two runs taking his line to .351/.412/.494 after 20 games. The homer wasn’t a cheap shot either, sailing into the bullpen in left center field.
When called up to Gwinnett his final AA line .369/.442/.512/.953 with a homer, five doubles and two triples in 95 PA. Now he’s at Gwinnett and sometime after the Break he might get a shot in Atlanta.
