Atlanta Braves Edged by D-Backs; Fall to 7-22

The night started off well enough for the Braves as they put two runs on the board in the first two innings. Highlighted by a Freddie Freeman homer in the first.

Ultimately, it was the same result we’re a custom to in 2016. A loss. The Braves are now 7-22 on the year. The welcoming back of Ender Inciarte and the guy who netted him, Shelby Miller, didn’t end in the Braves favor.

Freeman got the best of Miller in the first, notching his fourth home run of the season. A sacrifice fly from Mallex Smith made it 2-0 after two and that’s all the Braves could muster against old friend Shelby Miller.

The Diamondbacks, had a 3-2 lead after eight, and added another in the their top of the ninth to push it to 4-2. The same song and dance is getting all too familiar, and one has to wonder if the Braves will ever win another game.

Obviously, they will, because the law of averages says they will. However, it’s curious that a team struggling like the D-Backs were coming in, you’d think the Braves could at least grab a couple of wins in the series.

Arizona MVP Paul Goldschmidt was struggling coming in to the series, and he still has yet to do much in this series. Untimely hitting and bad fielding still haunt the Braves in every attempt. Only amassing four hits tonight doesn’t help matters.

After sending Adonis Garcia down to Triple-A and activating Inciarte, the hope was that having Inciarte at the top of the lineup would help generate a spark. Well, Inciarte went 0-3 and didn’t help much, With the slumping of Nick Markakis, Freddie Freeman has been the only bright spot.

Garcia was one of Atlanta’s best hitter, but his suspect defense forced the Braves hand, and he was sent back to AAA Gwinnett. He is the only one that had the options to use and they needed to make room for Ender.

Getting him more time in left field hopefully will help. The fact that he will not have to worry about the day in and day out stresses hopefully gets him back on track.

The Bravos are back at it again tomorrow in the final game of a three game set. On the hill for the Braves will be Folty who is 0-1 with a whopping 9.82 ERA. Opposing him will be DBacks Patrick Corbin. He is 1-3 with a 4.91 ERA.

Game time is set for 1:35 eastern.

I long for the day when I’m able to do a recap when the Braves actually win a game. I won’t hold my breath though. Those are far and few between this year. At this point, I’d settle for a tie; at least it’s not a loss.

Is it 2017 yet?
