Braves young-guns are moving up!

Atlanta Braves have many prospects blooming in the minor leagues and it’s quite satisfying to see this.  For years, the Braves minor league system hasn’t been something to write home about, but after the multiple trades and the restructuring process that John Hart and John Coppolella have been up to in past years, our affiliates are becoming powerhouse-like.

When you look at the Braves top 20 prospects, you’ll see many recognizable names.  These names we’ll be talking a lot about for years to come so make sure you take note.

MLB.com has recently released their new 2016 Prospect Watch Top 100 List and the Braves have a good number of players on this list.

Here’s how they have ranked the Braves players

#6 – Dansby Swanson

#18 Sean Newcomb

#26 Ozzie Albies

#52 Aaron Blair

#85 Kolby Allard

Swanson is still number one on the Braves prospect list and should continue to be there – until he’s in Atlanta.  He’s the third shortstop on MLB.com’s prospect watch list behind Phillies J.P. Crawford and Brewers Orlando Arcia.

Newcomb comes in as the top pitching prospect for the Braves, the seventh pitcher and the third left-handed pitching prospect on MLB.com’s list.

Both Swanson and Newcomb are currently with the Mississippi Braves, but it’s possible they won’t be there for long.  Newcomb has started seven games and is 1-2 with a 3.96 ERA.  He’s walked 20 hitters and struck out 35.  The 6’5″ 255 lefty could move up to Gwinnett this season, but still needs to work on his control as that’s what he struggled with during the 2016 Spring Training.

The Braves have the number three pick in this years draft and it’s most likely they will add another player to the top 100 list after the draft is over.  Many top high school pitching prospects in this years draft as well as college pitchers.  Coppolella said earlier this year that they would prefer a bat with this pick, but if one of these pitchers are still there, they may go with them.
