Braves Prospect, Albies Continues To Prove He’s Everything We Want Him To Be

The Atlanta Braves are struggling record wise as well as at certain positions…most notably right now is the shortstop position.  Braves General Manager John Coppolella traded away our defensive superstar, Andrelton Simmons, this offseason in favor of pitching prospects and Erick Aybar.  The 32-year-old was Choppy’s guy and he believed in Aybar to hit better than Simmons and play decent defense.

Well, Simmons is on the disabled list with a thumb injury but he’s still batting better than Aybar with a .219 batting average…Aybar currently has a .180 average in 2016.

Atlanta’s new era of coaching started last night with Brian Snitker at the helm.  He decided to go with Daniel Castro at the shortstop position instead of Aybar…which pleased many fans.  Aybar did enter the game after Kelly Johnson was removed from the game and went 0-1 and got hit by a pitch.

Aybar isn’t the answer.  Castro isn’t the answer.  Braves prospects Dansby Swanson and Ozzie Albies are the answers.

We’ve been covering this topic for a while now and will continue.  If you missed Ryan’s write up yesterday about these two players, it’s worth the read.

Wednesday, Albies already has a home run in Gwinnett’s game against the Durham Bulls.  He belted a leadoff homer to deep center field (fence is 400 in center at Coolray Field).  This is Albies second home run at Gwinnett and third homer of the 2016 season.  He is now batting .242 in his first 18 games at the Triple-A level.  In his last six games with Gwinnett he’s hitting .368 with two doubles and a homer.

The 19-year-old standout continues to shine at Gwinnett at the plate and in the field.  At the plate though, he may have found an interesting new approach…

Albies is listed on Gwinnett’s roster at 5’9″ 160 pounds.  This could be with cleats and a wet suit on.  Albies is a little guy, but continues to show that he could be a superstar in the MLB.

Lucas Sims posted a photo yesterday of Albies with a miniature bat.  Obviously (or opbviously as DOB says) this is a joke and I love that Albies is okay with it.  His personally is something that you want in your clubhouse.  With him and Mallex Smith in the same locker room, things will be fun to watch shortly.
