One Bad Pitch Destroys Braves On Tuesday

Did it though?  Did one bad pitch kill us?  I don’t know and the questions and answers won’t be necessary in the long run.  The Atlanta Braves lost 3-1 to the Cincinnati Reds and that’s how it will go down in the record books.  Braves are now 7-27 at Turner Field in 2016

To go back to the 1st innings…Braves starter Julio Teheran got Zack Cozart to fly out to right field.  Okay, cool one out.  Next though, he walks Joey Votto.  With Votto on first, Brandon Phillips singles to left.  Then the dagger, Jay Bruce hits his 15th home run of the season and just like that the Reds are up 3-0.

To be fair to Teheran, he only allowed one more hit after the first inning, didn’t allow another run or walk and had eight strikeouts.  Teheran retired 17 in a row at one point.  He lasted seven innings for the Braves, but eventually picked up his seventh loss of the 2016 season….he’s now 2-7 with a 2.93 ERA.

“He left it all out there for his seven innings and he gave us a chance,” Manager Snikler said.  One pitch he missed his location or he didn’t get it all or stayed up in the zone.  Anyway, three runs and we had a lot of time to get it after he gave up those runs.”

Braves Offense You May Ask About

Steller…nope.  Braves totaled five hits and five walks on the evening…one hit and two walks came in the 9th inning.  Top four hitters in our lineup?  0-13 with two strikeouts, two walks and two hit by pitches.

The lone multi hit performance came from Adonis Garcia…yup!

Red’s starting pitcher Brandon Finnegan went six innings giving up four hits, one run, three walks and five strikeouts.

“He was effectively wild,” Braves Manager Brian Snikler said after the game about Finnegan.  “Here or there in the last three, four or five games.  We get guys on and can’t pierce a gap.”

Them Fighting Actions

So yesterday, Erick Aybar was hit by a pitch right in the ribs.  He went down for a few minutes in the batters box, but evidentially walked to first base and stayed in the game.

Today, Aybar was originally slated to be in the starting lineup, but his ribs were still sore so he was removed.

Tonight, Freddie Freeman was hit by a pitch…twice!  And another ball went above Nick Markakis’s head.

What will Bud Norris do tomorrow?  Keep an eye on this situation.

Late Rally Comes Up Short

In the 9th inning, Garcia walked to start the inning.  Tyler Flowers then singled and Jace Peterson walked.  No outs, bases loaded, down 3-1.  We’ve got something cooking…right??

Well, A.J. Pierzynski strikes out….one out.  Still a shot.

Mallex Smith then grounds into a double play to end the game…no shot.

“I was thinking AJ would hit one in the gap or hit one out,” Snikler said post game.  “I felt good.  He just missed the first one.  We were in a good position, it just wasn’t happening.  Nothing you can do, but keep going up there and grinding through at-bats.  Sooner or later, that thing will turn and we’ll get balls in the gap and start winning some games.”
