For the First Time in 22 Years, I was Back in Fulton County Watching the Atlanta Braves

Macon Flavor

The excitement and anxiousness I felt leaving work Wednesday evening was comparable to a 10 year old preparing for Christmas Day, on Christmas Eve. My enthusiasm was that high!

Thursday morning at 7:30 AM, July 28th, 2016, I set out for the 11+ hour drive to Macon (I stayed with family there). The trip was a guys weekend with just me and my two boys. They weren’t as excited as I was.

I arrived in Macon around 9:00 PM. I purposefully kept away form passing Turner Field. I didn’t want to spoil my “surprise”.

Friday was the day before the game and I spent it with my extended family enjoying some of what Macon had to offer. Friday morning, a trip to the mall and Lids to update the Braves swag. I don’t get many opportunities in Maryland to stock up.

After that mission had been accomplished, we looked around a bit. Game Stop, Hot Topic, Barnes and Noble, and a few Pokeballs thrown at Rattata and Pidgey. Yeah, so what, I play Pokemon GO!

We were treated to one of Macon’s local hot spots. The Rookery. Located in the heart of Downtown Macon, this place was legit. The menu item of choice? A DBT Dirty South Burger (Angus Beef burger (medium rare) with bacon, topped with chili and cheese sauce) and to wash it down … a local Macon brew piece called a Macon Progress, draft.

That was some good eats folks. If you’re ever in Macon, I highly recommend that and another local establishment called The Barefoot Tavern, unbelievable wings.

Next: Game Day!
