Atlanta Braves Claim Chaz Roe

Earlier this afternoon Jerry Crasnick reported via Twitter that the Atlanta Braves had claimed 29 year old RHRP Chaz Roe from the Orioles. The 6’5”, 190 pound righty was a first round (32nd) pick of the Rockies in the 2005 draft.

The Rockies traded him to Seattle in December 2010 and released by the Mariners in November of 2011. From that point forward he’s defined journeyman pitching well enough in independent ball in 2012 to be signed by the Diamondbacks in September.

He remained with Arizona through 2013 but was claimed by the Rangers in November of that year, a relationship that lasted until sprig training in 2014 when he was released.

The Marlins signed him shortly after he left Texas and he remained with them until August when the Yankees his contract only to release him in December.

The Orioles signed him immediately after he left the Yankees and sent him to AAA Norfolk where he appeared in 33 games throwing 37 2/3 innings with a 2.98 ERA, 0.982 WHIP striking out 45 and walking 10.

That work earned him a call to come to Baltimore on June 20 where he made nine appearance throwing 9 2/3 innings allowing four runs and eight hits for the O’s posting a 3.72 ERA 1.552 WHIP, striking out 11 and walking seven.

That’s A Wrap

Roe adds bullpen depth as the season wraps up. He’ll join the bullpen Monday in Milwaukee. Since he was on the Orioles 40 man roster he will have to be added to the Braves roster but no corresponding roster move has been announced.

Next: The Other New Guy In Town

Theoretically they could move Williams Perez to the 60 day as he hasn’t throw a pitch since being diagnosed with a shoulder injury on June 11. There would also have to be a change to the 25 man roster but that move has not yet been announced.
