As well as the Braves have been playing – kinda – over the second half, there is actually room to believe that a march down the 2017 draft board could be possible.

The contenders for Worst Team in Baseball are known, and until about 2 weeks ago, it appeared that the Atlanta Braves were going to make everyone else play for the second draft pick next June.  Ah, but there’s been a turn-around.

The Hunt for Dead October

As of this morning, here are all clubs within 7½ games of the bottom of this barrel:

  • Milwaukee.  57-76 (+7.5)
  • Oakland.  57-76 (+7.5)
  • Tampa Bay.  56-76 (+7)
  • Arizona.  56-77 (+6.5)
  • Cincinnati.  55-77  (+6)
  • San Diego.  55-78  (+5.5)
  • Atlanta.  51-83  (+1)
  • Minnesota.  50-84  (0)

Clearly, there’s a separation between the bottom pair and everyone else at this time.  But that’s where this recent hot streak of the Braves could mean something.  Let’s take a look at the remaining games for each team and how they could fare for the rest of the year, for not all schedules are created equal.
