Atlanta Braves pitcher Matt Marksberry waking up from coma, breathing on his own

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: What a wild and scary course of events this story has been.  If you’re just catching up (check out the full story here), Atlanta Braves left-handed pitcher Matt Marksberry had gone to the hospital for a colonoscopy after having extreme stomach issues.  During the procedure, he suffered a seizure and a collapsed lung.  He was placed into a medically-induced coma and put on life support.  It’s amazing how life can change just in a second.  Continue to keep Matt in your thoughts and prayers as he battles this out.  He has been in Florida rehabbing his injured shoulder.

"Atlanta Braves pitcher Matt Marksberry is waking up from a medically-induced coma at an Orlando hospital after suffering from a seizure and collapsed lung during a routine medical procedure, according to a source close to the Marksberry family. The 26-year-old pitcher was removed from life support and is breathing on his own, sources said Thursday evening.Marksberry went to the hospital Tuesday for a colonoscopy because of severe stomach issues he had been suffering from for more than a week, according to a source with knowledge of the situation."

Latest on Brian McCann Trade Talks

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Oh, the rumor that won’t die….Brian McCann back to the Atlanta Braves!  In all fairness, I wouldn’t mind this trade if the Braves didn’t give up a lot for him, but I’m guessing that wouldn’t be the case.  The Yankees are looking for young pitching and the Braves certainly have that.  Do we want to give that up for an aging catcher with a few more years and a great locker room guy?  Possibly.  It’s rumored the Yankees were asking the Braves for either Ender Inciarte or Mike Foltynewicz in return for the veteran catcher.  No and No.  Inciarte is young, controllable and will be terrific in ATL.  Folty’s breakout season is coming in 2017.  Yanks, just hand us McCann’s rights, please and thank you.

"Buster Olney of ESPN has previously listed the Braves, Astros, Rockies, Nationals, Mariners, and Angels as speculative fits for McCann, and cited MLB sources who believe it is “far more likely” the team trades him this winter than retains him.The clear favorite for McCann’s services this winter if a deal does go down remains the Atlanta Braves, however. The two clubs held extensive talks in the days leading up to the August 1st trade deadline.McCann will have considerable say over where he ends up because of his full no trade clause, and Atlanta could be his preferred landing spot because it is where he still maintains his offseason home after spending the first nine years of his MLB career as a Brave."

Former Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale returns to Athletics

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Well, there you have it…the A’s have found their replacement for Ron Washington and he left Oakland to join the Atlanta Braves.  Washington knows this team is on the upswing and wants to be a part of it….right, right??  Chip Hale was in Oakland from 2012 to 2014 so a return makes sense here.  He tried his hand at managing, but couldn’t get the job done in Arizona.  It seems like the trend for third base coaches are what all former managers are turning to right now.

"Former Arizona Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale is returning to the Oakland Athletics organization as third base coach on manager Bob Melvin’s staff.Hale replaces Ron Washington, who took the same position with the Atlanta Braves to be closer to his home in New Orleans. In two seasons as Arizona manager, Hale went 148-176 before being fired Oct. 3, one day after the season ended. He left his position as A’s bench coach – which he had from 2012-14 – to become the D-backs skipper."
