Hitter of the week: His upside has been termed by this writer as an ideal 4th outfielder, but after a game of a lifetime on Sunday, Keith Curcio wrapped up the week for Mississippi with a monster line, hitting .500/.529/.750 with 2 doubles, a triple, 2 runs, 2 RBI, stolen base, and a 1/3 BB/K ratio.

Honorable mention: There were a load of candidates for this spot, but I chose to go with the guy who impressed me the most, in spite of his numbers not being as good as others.

Alex Jackson made a big impression in Florida, hitting .313/.313/.625 with 2 doubles, a home run, 4 runs, a system-leading 10 RBI, and a 0/4 BB/K. While he did not draw a walk, Jackson’s swing already showed more to me than the video from his time in Seattle.

Pitcher of the week: The 2016 brought in three top-shelf high school arms in the first three selections. Lost in the performance of those three in 2016 was the performance of the Atlanta Braves’ 4th round selection, Bryse Wilson, who put up a 0.68 ERA and 8/29 BB/K ratio over 26 2/3 innings in the GCL.

Wilson was promoted to Rome to open 2017, and he opened the 2017 season with a dominating performance in Rome’s opening game on Friday, throwing 5 innings, allowing just one hit and no walks, striking out 5.

Honorable mention: While there was plenty of press about the top four in the Mississippi rotation, little attention was paid to Matt Withrow, who was being promoted from high-A. Withrow finished the 2016 season in a strong fashion, and he led off in 2017 with the same strength.

Withrow took a perfect game through the fifth inning before he allowed the first two hitters of the sixth inning to reach and the bullpen allowed both to score, making his final line look much worse than the dominance he had all day.
