On a night honoring the late, great Jackie Robinson, the Atlanta Braves went for win number two at home and their third straight on the young season.

127. Final. 4. 17. 2

R.A. Dickey got the start for the Atlanta Braves in the second game of a three-game set against the Padres.

The night got off to a rocky start. In the top of the 2nd inning, Dickey served up long balls to Hunter Renfroe and Austin Hedges, in succession to get the Friars an early 2-0 lead.

The Braves answered back in the bottom half of the 3rd. Chase d’Arnaud set the table with a solid single to center. After a Dickey strikeout, Chase was awarded second base after a balk was called on Padres pitcher, Clayton Richard.

A single from Ender Inciarte advanced to d’Arnaud to third. Dansby Swanson got the Braves on the board singling to right field that plated Chase.

On the hit, Inciarte moved up to second. Nick Markakis followed that with a single of his own, after a Freddie Freeman strikeout, scoring Inciarte from second, and knotting the score at 2 a piece.

It would stay tied going into the bottom of the 6th inning. Brandon Phillips and Adonis Garcia gave the Braves the lead with back-to-back home runs, giving Atlanta a 4-2 advantage.

In a theme that has emerged of late, the bullpen took over in the 7th inning. R.A. Dickey started the frame, but couldn’t record an out. Dickey’s line closed with 6 IP, 7 hits, 1 BB, 6 K’s and gave up 2 earned runs, off the home runs in the 2nd inning.

Over the course of the last 12 IP for Brave relievers, they have allowed 2 hits, 0 earned runs, 1 BB, and have 13 K’s. This dates back all the way back to the 6th inning, Monday.

After Dickey allowed the first two hitters to reach, he was lifted in favor of Jose Ramirez. Ramirez worked out that jam on a fly ball out, and a nifty double play turned by Dansby and Phillips (AKA Bransby) to Freeman.

Arodys Vizcaino worked a clean 8th inning allowing just a hit, but no more. Jim Johnson would close it out for the Braves, working a 1-2-3 ninth. Johnson earned his 3rd save of the year, striking out 2 in the inning.

On a night where everyone in the program was wearing 42, the Braves post a 4-2 win.

Next up for the Braves are these same Padres, at 1:35 PM. Getting the ball for the Braves will be “Big Sexy”, Bartolo Colon as he aims for his first win on the season. Getting the nod for the
