The Braves didn’t struggle for hits or runs Monday night at home with the New York Mets in town, but their ace was roughed up a bit.

Atlanta (10-14) hosted New York in the first game of four in the series at SunTrust Park and while to offense was productive, it was Julio Teheran who struggled in a 7-5 loss.

The Mets got on the scoreboard early with a Michael Conforto two out solo homer in the top of the first inning to put his team up early. Ender Inciarte answered in the bottom half of the inning with a solo shot of his own, also with a pair of outs.

Bats kept quiet for both teams until the fourth inning when the Mets racked up five runs with RBI from Neil Walker, Jose Reyes, T.J. Rivera and two more from Michael Conforto.

With New York now up 6-1, the Braves mounted a partial comeback in the bottom half of the fourth when Freddie Freeman scored on a Nick Markakis groundout. Adonis Garcia also drove in Matt Kemp with a single and Atlanta finished the inning down 6-3.

In a repeat of the fourth inning, Markakis once again scored Freeman in the sixth with a groundout and the same for Kemp scoring off the bat of Garcia. Just like that the Braves were within one, down 6-5.

Julio Teheran left the game after six innings, having given up six runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out five, only giving up the one long ball in the first. Teheran falls to 2-2 on the year with the loss.

In the end, the Mets would score one more run in the eighth inning, while Atlanta’s bats would be quietened through the end of the game.  The win went to New York’s Robert Gsellman, improving to 1-2 on the year.
