Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Could Braves Be Buying? What A Catch!
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: St. Louis Cardinals visited SunTrust Park for the first time and definitely got their money worth. The Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Mike Folynewicz just couldn’t stop the bleeding and only lasted four innings on Friday night. He gave up nine hits, seven runs, two walks and had four strikeouts. This was his shortest outing since his first appearance of the season when he only went 3.2 innings against Pittsburgh…this too was played on a crapy, rainy day. The 25-year-old had three very successful games his last three outings…he’s progressing, not regressing.
This is another game we can add to the “forget bucket” because gah it was awful. The one positive takeaway from Friday was Ender Inciarte at the plate. He went 3-4 with a triple and two singles.
Matt Kemp also had a heck of a catch in left field. Check out our full recap here with video of the catch.

Braves fan makes excellent one-handed catch no one will remember
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: This Braves fan will always remember the terrific catch he made on Thursday night, but many others will not.
In the 4th inning of the Braves vs Mets Thursday night game, rain came to SunTrust Park and never left. The game was canceled and postponed to a later date. All stats wiped clean in the scoreboard so this Jay Bruce will not count.
That sucks for this fan, Bruce, fantasy owners and even Freddie Freeman and Brandon Phillips who both had doubles.
What a catch though from this fan…did spill a drop of beer!
"During the fourth inning of Thursday’s New York Mets-Atlanta Braves game, Jay Bruce drove a 3-2 fastball deep to right field for a two-run homer. The ball was hit directly at a fan standing near the Chop House area in right. The fan reached out with one hand, and casually snagged the ball out of the air. He did all of this while holding a beer in his other hand. He didn’t spill a drop.Pretty impressive, right? That’s the type of fan catch you usually see posted on highlight shows. Broadcasters praise the fan for making a great play on a ball. The fan gets his 15 minutes of fame and a nice video clip to show all his friends.Except that didn’t happen. Bruce’s home run probably wasn’t featured on a ton of highlight shows because Thursday’s Mets-Braves game no longer exists."

Atlanta Braves: Could Be Buying not Selling in 2017
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Quickly, this will be the question everyone is going to be asking…will the Braves buy or sell during the months of June and July? The Braves currently sit at 11-16 for the 2017 season, but it’s still extremely early. I’m still in the boat that thinks the Braves will hover around the .500 mark all season and end around there.
I think the Braves will be sellers before the trade deadline. Bartolo Colon, R.A. Dickey, Jaime Garcia, Brandon Phillips, Jim Johnson, Nick Markakis all could be dealt.
The 2017 season will be a fun year to watch (a lot better than years past), but I don’t think we’re a playoff team just yet. We’re getting there though! If Coppy feels we’re a player or two away, hell we could be buyers.
"Selling off a slew of veteran talent to other teams has become something of a tradition for this new Braves regime at times sending the same players from the year before for a prospect or two. The sell off generally starts in June and goes until the trade deadline. This may be the first year that the Braves could take the opposite approach.Selling off players in a new stadium trying to sell tickets is counter productive and not the way that the Braves are going to go with a fan base that they are already struggling not to alienate. Many fans are yet to forgive the Braves for selling off fan favorites like Evan Gattis or Jason Heyward. While the moves were needed they were also painful and the fan base is just now beginning to recover and a sell off in a new stadium would not be a good look. That may not mean that the Braves will be buyers but if they are anywhere near contending for a wild card spot the team could well add some complimentary pieces to attempt to make it back to postseason play."
