This isn’t unusual… when it comes to baseball, there are about as many mock draft guesses as there mock drafts.  Let’s line up a few and see the latest on what everyone thinks will happen on June 12.

The Atlanta Braves are picking 5th this year.  That’s about the only fact we can be assured of regarding the 2017 MLB Draft.

Beyond that, it’s a matter of guessing needs vs. past tendencies vs. scouting activity vs. signability, and everybody has their own take on the matter.

So here’s how things are shaking out in the punditry world of baseball… but first:  a quick reminder about who these guys are.

The Bios

Here are the players either named here, or likely in consideration for the 5th pick, in the order as ranked by BaseballAmercia.com:

  • HUNTER GREENE.  6’3″/205, RHP/RHH SS.  Notre Dame High School, Sherman Oaks, CA.  [1]
  • BENDAN McKAY.  6’2″/212, LHP/LHH 1B.  University of Louisville. [2]
  • KYLE WRIGHT.  6’4″/220, RHP.  Vanderbilt. [3]
  • MACKENZIE GORE.  6’1/185, LHP.  Whiteville High School, NC [4]
  • ROYCE LEWIS.  6’1″/190, SS/CF RHH.  JSerra Catholic H.S., San Juan Capistrano, CA. [5]
  • J.B. BUKAUSKAS.  6’1″/196, RHP.  University of N. Carolina. [6]
  • JORDAN ADELL.  6’3″/200, OF RHH.  Ballard High School, Louisville. [8]
  • AUSTIN BECK.  6’1/200, OF, RHH.  North Davidson High School, Lexington, NC. [9]
  • SHANE BAZ.  6’3/190, RHP.  Concordia Lutheran High School, Tomball, TX. [12]
  • ADAM HASELEY.  6’1″/195, LHH. University of Virginia. [13]
  • SAM CARLSON.  6’4″/208, RHP.  Burnsville High School, Minn. [15]
  • NICK PRATTO.  6’2″/200, 1B LHH.  Huntington Beach High School, CA.  [17]. 2 days ago, Nick went 1 for 3 with a big dinger plus a walk in a playoff game… and threw a 2-hit complete game shutout.

Those not listed in the top 17 rankings are college players that no one has tied the Braves to in any publication I am aware of.

Scouting reports are quite varied and subjective (hence the varied mock drafts we’re seeing), so I opted not to take up additional space here with the kind of details that Ben has nobly provided in his own mock drafts.

So let these serve as reminders only as we move along here.
