Atlanta Braves Land Pair of Prospects in MLB Futures Game

Major League Baseball’s stars will converge on the Miami area in a couple of weeks for the All-Star Game. The talent of tomorrow will also have a chance to showcase their skills.

With a farm system packed full of top talent, it’s no surprise that the Atlanta Braves will have two prospects in the 2017 All-Star Futures Game in Miami.

This year’s Futures roster will include Mississippi Braves right handed pitcher Mike Soroka and outfielder Ronald Acuna.

Soroka was a first round selection (28th overall) by the Braves in the 2015 MLB Draft. The Canadian has been on an accelerated ascension through the organization, having skipped advance-A completely going straight to Mississippi from Rome out of spring training this year.

Acuna was an international signing by Atlanta scouts in 2014 and, like Soroka, started his professional career in the Braves organization in 2015. He spent a short time with the advance-A Florida Fire Frogs this season before being promoted to double-A Mississippi in early May.

Both Soroka and Acuna were key members of last year’s Rome Braves squad that won the South Atlantic League title. It was the team’s first since their inaugural 2003 season. Both prospects are still only 19 years old.

Soroka is 9-3 at double-A with a 2.18 ERA through 14 games. He has recorded 71 strikeouts and only give up 17 walks. His 0.99 WHIP is among the best in the Southern League so far this season.

Acuna is hitting a combined .304/.356/.474 between Florida and Mississippi this season. The speedster has stolen 30 bases, and hit eight homers. He’s driven in 42 runs and scored 43 times and has 88 hits with 13 doubles and six triples.

Both Braves prospects will play in the Futures Game as members of the World Team, as both are international players. See the full 2017 MLB All-Star Futures Game roster HERE.  The game will take place on Sunday, July 9 at 4 p.m. ET at Miami’s Marlins Park.
