Could What Happened to the Braves 10 Years Ago Today Impact Tonight’s Game?

The Atlanta Braves open a three-game series tonight against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field and hope to take these three games after splitting the series with the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Coming off of two straight losses in the series though, including an extra inning loss last night, could the Braves use the strength of a game ten years ago as momentum to win tonight’s game?

Ten years ago today, the Braves were at AT&T Park for a matchup against the San Francisco Giants.  Tim Hudson was on the mound for the Braves, while Matt Morris had the ball for the Giants.

Not only was this a Braves’ team with Tim Hudson, the likes of Edgar Renteria, Chipper Jones, Andruw Jones, Brian McCann, Jeff Francoeur and Julio Franco were in the lineup.  A lineup that was not to shabby to say the least and a lineup that had already propelled the Braves to a 53-47 record entering the game.

More from Braves News

After the first three innings saw no score, the Braves broke through in the top of the fourth for a 3-0 lead.  Then in the top of the fifth, Chipper Jones hit his 17th home run of the year off of Morris to give the Braves a 4-0 lead.  Jones led the night, going 3-5 with two RBI’s and scoring two runs.

Hudson Dominates for Most of the Night

With the Braves leading, Tim Hudson continued to dominate.  That is until the bottom of the ninth inning when the Giants got to him for three runs, before he left the game with a 4-3 lead and still in line for the win.

Bob Wickman came in for a save opportunity, but he did not execute, as the Giants tied the game at 4, sending the game into extra innings.

The next three innings were the same as the first three innings, scoreless.  Finally the Braves broke through in the top of the 13th for three runs, while the Giants only managed to score one run in the bottom of 13th and the Braves prevailed with a 7-5 win!

2017 Braves Team

Perseverance is what happened in that game in 2007 and not to say the 2017 Braves team does not have perseverance, but they have to win games that go into extra innings, unlike last night against the Dodgers.

Although the lineup from 2007 is not the current lineup, this Braves team can look back 10 years, reflect and take a page from their book and make a run at the postseason.
