The Atlanta Braves Have a Significant Presence at The Hall of Fame Induction

Although no Atlanta Braves players will be inducted in the National Baseball Hall of Fame this year, it does not mean that the presence of the Braves will not be felt.

It most certainly will be felt by the induction of someone behind the scenes, who has had about as much of an impact as any player could have on the team.  Braves Vice Chairman John Schuerholz will see his 2017 Hall of Fame Induction plaque on Monday, July 31st.

Schuerholz has made those moves that are not seen everyday by the normal fan, yet has impacted what the Braves have done since coming to the team in October of 1990.

Behind the Scenes with John Schuerholz

After starting with the Braves in October of 1990 as General Manager, Schuerholz held that role for seventeen years before being named team President in October of 2007.

During this time as General Manager, Schuerholz changed the face of the Braves, really placing the team on the map.  From 1991 up through 2005, Schuerholz guided the Braves to fourteen consecutive divisional titles.

But that was not all, in the 1990’s, he helped the Braves win five National League pennants, along with the World Series Championship in 1995.

He also fired Frank Wren (ughhhh) and won over John Hart to become president of baseball operations during his tenure.

Schuerholz reign as team President ended last year, as he moved into more of an advisory role, being named the Vice Chairman.  Here, Schuerholz is helping to secure another significant move by the Braves – a new spring training facility – as he is in deep talks with the officials of Sarasota County and Palm Beach County to finalize the facility which would be ready for 2018.

All those moves have paid off for Schuerholz as Monday he will get to see his plaque and have his place in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.  In essence, it shows you do not have to be a player to have an impact on the game and make it to the Hall of Fame.

In 2018 a few Braves players will be for this great honor…the Jones Boys — Chipper Jones and Andruw Jones!  Would be awesome if they go in together, but I’m thinking it will just be Chipper this first year.  He’s definitely a first ballot Hall of Famer!
