Braves make a few roster moves on Friday afternoon

I saw a video this morning of Chris Cornell’s daughter, Toni Cornell, and OneRepbulic performing the song “Hallelujah“ on Good Morning America.  So once I saw the Atlanta Braves tweet on social media the only thing on my mind was “Hallelujah”!

The Braves made a roster move on Friday afternoon and it deals with the bullpen.  Right-handed pitcher Jason Motte has been placed back into the pen and left-handed pitcher Ian Krol has been placed on the 10-day disabled list.  Krol is going to be missing time due to a “strained left oblique”. HA, okay.

The ole strained left oblique trick…whatever gets Krol out of the bullpen I guess.

Motte was on the DL with a lower back strain.  He made one appearance with the Rome Braves and seven appearances with the Gwinnett Braves.  In those eight games, he held a 1.08 ERA with eight strikeouts and only one walk.

The 35-year-old has been pretty successful in a Braves uniform in 2017.  He’s pitched in 31 games and has a 3.76 ERA.  In 26.1 innings pitched, he’s walked nine and struck out 19.

The veteran pitcher will fit in nicely back in the Braves bullpen.

Speaking of, this is what the pen currently looks like.  On paper, it’s not too bad.

In other Braves news:

The Braves have sent outfielder Randy Ventura to the Cincinnati Reds.  Atlanta will receive $1.25M in international bonus pool money for this exchange.

Kind of unusual deal here.  The 20-year-old has been playing well for the Braves since they signed him.  He was playing with the Rome Braves in 2017 with a .294 batting average, one homer, one triple, seven doubles and 29 stolen bases.

I’m guessing the Braves see they have enough speedy outfielders in the minors that they didn’t need Ventura.  The 5’9″ 165-pounder had speed, but his power probably wasn’t ever going to develop.

Next: Perspective on the Atlanta Braves rebuild

Good for the Reds as they probably need some help within their minors….and good for the Braves as they didn’t see a fit and received international bonus pool money to use.  Maybe the Braves have their eyes on someone or possibly just looking ahead.
