The Braves had been looking for a solid outing from their struggling staff ace, and they got it Monday night. Unfortunately the game ended in a loss.

Coming off a series finale win at St. Louis, the Atlanta Braves (52-64) looked to stay on track in the mile high city Monday night, but it wasn’t meant to be. Colorado came up with a late 3-0 win in the end.

The Rockies had fate on their side, so it seemed, starting cancer survivor Chad Bettis in his first start back from treatment. He threw seven scoreless innings in a no decision that went scoreless into the Rockies eighth.

Julio Teheran had a solid start of his own, giving up no runs on only four hits. He struck out eight and only walked three batters in what was arguably his best outing of the year.

Both teams had trouble getting the bats going against the starters, but it was the Rockies who finally got to the Braves bullpen, tagging Rex Brothers for three runs in the eighth inning. That would be more than enough to win as Colorado’s pen finished the shutout for the home team.

Atlanta had two on with Ozzie Albies at the plate with two outs in the ninth, but his five-game hit streak was broken in a game-ending line drive out.

Six Braves hitters, including Julio Teheran, had at least one hit in the game. Nick Markakis managed the only multi-hit performance for Atlanta, going 2-for-4.

Ender Inciarte just missed an inside-the-park home run by an eyelash, getting thrown out at home to lead off the game. It was the closest Atlanta came to scoring in the game.
