Braves win big in the Rockies, Ender blasts two bombs, Sims picks up victory

The Atlanta Braves took on the Colorado Rockies in a four-game series this week starting on Monday and concluding today.  After today, the Rockies sit at 67-54 and hold an NL Wildcard spot…a spot the Braves dreamed about a few weeks ago.

Atlanta came into Thursday’s afternoon game needing a victory to split the series two games a piece.  The Rockies won game one and game three, but the Braves very well could have won that first game on Monday.  Remember?  It was the game no one wanted to score a run at Coors Field.

The Braves sent Lucas Sims to the mound on Thursday and starting for the Rockies was Jeff Hoffman.

Tyler Flowers led off the 2nd inning for the Braves with a homer to put the good guys up 1-0.  The Rockies came back though in the bottom of that inning to put two runs on the board.  The game was at 2-2.

To lead off the 3rd inning, Ender Inciarte mashed a 1-1 pitch into the upper deck in right field which measured at 429 feet.  This was Ender’s first home run since July 19.

Guess who put another run on the board in the 5th inning?  Yup, our All-Star center fielder!  Inciarte led off again in the 5th and crushed a 3-1 fastball.  A batter later, Freddie Freeman wanted a part in the action and hit his own homer.  That was Freddie’s 22 home run of the season and his longest of the year…439 feet.

Did you think that inning was fun?  Well, the Braves were up 4-2 at this point, but we were barely touching the iceberg of fun.

The 7th inning was where it was at!  Here is the breakdown of this inning…try to stay with me…

Inciarte walked and then stole second base

More from Braves News

Brandon Phillips singled to right field (loved the oppo swing) that scored Inciarte

Freeman lined out, but that’s okay

Nick Markakis singled to right that moved Phillips to second

Flowers flew out, but that’s okay because…

Matt Adams pinch-hit for the pitcher (Sam Freeman) and blasted a double to center. This scored Phillips and Markakis

Ozzie Albies singled

Dansby Swanson tripled to center which scored Adams and Albies

Lane Adams singled and scored Swanson

Inciarte…grounded out.  But by then, the Braves were up 10-2 and it was AMAZING!!

The bullpen gave up two runs late to the Rockies — Jim Johnson gave up a run and Jose Ramirez gave up a solo homer to Charlie Blackmon.

Thursday afternoon special ended with the Braves winning 10-4!
