The Braves started another interleague series to kick off the week at home, but couldn’t pull ahead late in a close contest.

The Atlanta Braves (55-68) scored plenty of runs on Monday night, but the offense couldn’t quite overcome a six-run start from Mike Foltynewicz, losing to the Seattle Mariners 6-5.

Seattle got on the board first with a run in the top of the second, but Atlanta pulled ahead 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning. The runs for the Braves came off a homer from Kurt Suzuki – his 14th of the season – and an RBI single from Ender Inciarte.

The lead for Atlanta was short-lived, however, as the Mariners scored another run in the third and three more in the fourth inning. With yet another run for Seattle in the sixth, Foltynewicz exited down 6-2.

Folty went five and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs on nine hits. He struck out only three batters and walked two in the game.

The Braves put up a three-spot in the bottom of the sixth, pulling to within a run. Atlanta’s bullpen held the Mariners scoreless in relief, but the offense couldn’t plate any runs to pull ahead.

Andrew Albers got the win for Seattle (yes, the pitcher who couldn’t crack the Atlanta rotation), giving up four runs on six hits. He struck out three and walked only one.

Rookie Ozzie Albies was 2-for-4 with a pair of hits and two RBI in the game, while Inciarte was 3-for-5 and drove in a run of his own.

Nick Markakis ended the game 3-for-4 with a run, and Kurt Suzuki had a run and an RBI in a 1-for-4 performance that included the aforementioned homer.
