Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Chicago Cubs are 73-60 in 2017 and the Atlanta Braves are 59-73.  Not a good combination for this four-game matchup.  This one will be tough for the Braves as we’re kind of struggling right now scoring runs, our pitching hasn’t been great and we just traded away a good clubhouse guy.  It’s very possible the Cubs get the brooms out on us.

Ozzie Albies continues to swing the bat well and batted second on Thursday.  The Braves totaled two runs on Thursday and six hits…one of which was a pitch hit homer by Lane Adams.

The Braves will see John Lackey on Friday.  Game starts at 2:20pm ET.

Braves set to make roster adds, but Acuna not among them

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: It’s September 1st!!  Let’s see what happens with the Braves September call-ups.  Who will be added, who won’t be?  The answers to the questions are straight ahead of us.  We know Camargo, Santana and Garcia will be added, but who’s the next name to be called?

Yes, the Braves are 59-73, but we can be excited in September!

David O’Brien says in this article that “it’s unlikely” Ronald Acuna gets called up in September.  I kinda agree with him.  Not too much room for playing time in Atlanta.  Let him play out the year and get more at-bats in Gwinnett.  Then he’ll go to the Fall League and continue to crush those pitchers.

"The first six adds to the Braves’ September roster will be familiar faces, and they aren’t expected to add more than a few beyond that, with Ronald Acuna not likely to be among them."

"Relievers Luke Jackson and left-hander Ian Krol are scheduled to come off the disabled list Friday and lefty Rex Brothers also will be recalled from Triple-A on Friday, the first day rosters can be expanded beyond 25 players."

"Versatile position players Johan Camargo and Danny Santana, along with Adonis Garcia – who’s about to become more versatile again – will all be reinstated from the DL on Monday, Braves manager Brian Snitker said, after Garcia takes batting practice this week in Florida and plays in a few minor league games."

Brandon Phillips Traded to Angels; Braves Get Prospect Tony Sanchez

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves sent Brandon Phillips to LA for catching prospect Tony Sanchez.  The 29-year-old was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1st round of the 2009 MLB draft — 4th overall.  He starred at Boston College.

Sanchez debuted with the MLB Pirates in 2013 and played in 22 games that year.  The following season he played in 26 games and in 2015 he played in three games.  He’s mostly played in triple-a since 2012.  I’m wondering if the Braves asked about him because of the injury to Tyler Flowers and not having full trust in David Freitas.

Prior to the 2010 season, Baseball America had him ranked as the #79 best prospect.  Prior to 2011, he was ranked the #46 prospect in the game.

Sanchez is on the Braves 40-man roster

"The Los Angeles Angels remained aggressive Thursday, acquiring veteran second baseman Brandon Phillips in a trade with the Atlanta Braves, the Braves announced.Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic was the first to report the deal which also sees Angels minor leaguer Tony Sanchez head to Atlanta.Meanwhile, the Braves add organizational depth with Sanchez, a 29-year-old catcher who has hit .259 in 51 major league games. The former first-round pick is hitting .272 with four home runs for the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees."
