Still trying to avoid the always dreaded 100 loss season, the Braves took a step back Monday night at home in a loss to the Rangers.

R.A. Dickey took the bump for the Atlanta Braves (60-76) for Labor Day, but the Texas Rangers offense stayed hot in an 8-2 loss.

Texas got things started early with a run in the first, two runs in the second and two more in the third. The Rangers piles on three more runs in the fifth, spelling the end of the road for Atlanta’s veterans knuckleballer.

Dickey went 4.1 innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits. Six of those runs were earned and two of the hits were homers. Dickey struck out three batters and walked the same number in his short outing.

Backing up a bit… Atlanta’s bats finally got on the board in the fourth inning with a long Matt Adams two-run homer that scored Nick Markakis. That was about it for the Braves, however.

Texas starter Andrew Cashner had a solid outing, contributing to Atlanta’s slow offensive performance. Cashner went six innings, giving up only two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking only two.

In relief for the Braves, Matt Wisler gave up a solo home run in that aforementioned three-run fifth inning, but gave his team an inning and two-thirds on the night.

Atlanta also fielded Rex Brothers and Jim Johnson for an inning each. Both pitchers have the Braves scoreless outings. Texas had a total of 11 hits in the game, while Atlanta only managed eight.
