Atlanta Braves news: the morning chop, box score, Braves offering free tickets
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves came back and defeated the Miami Marlins on Thursday night. The Braves scored twice in the 9th inning to pull off another late inning comeback. We’re now 62-77, but at least we’re giving the fans a good show late in games. It makes me always stick around because I know the Braves are still in it!
Sean Newcomb started the game for the Braves, but didn’t start off well. He gave up three runs in the first inning, but then settled down from there. He lasted five innings, giving up those three runs, seven hits, three walks and had five strikeouts.
The Braves offense had a pretty solid night as they had 12 hits and scored six runs. Inciarte, Suzuki, Swanson and Peterson all had two hits a piece.
The 9th inning got started with Matt Adams hitting an opposite field double to left. Inciarte hit — a pinch running — Markakis over to third. Then big ol’ Ozzie Albies walked to the plate. He belted one deep to right field over Giancarlo Stanton’s head for a double and scoring Markakis. Freddie Freeman was intentionally walked and Lane Adams grounded out to third — which got Ozzie out. Kurt Suzuki was up next for the Braves. On an 0-2 pitch, he ripped one down the left field line and scored Freeman!

Braves hope to reactivate Tyler Flowers this weekend
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves are 5-5 since Tyler Flowers landed on the disabled list on August 30 as they’ve gone with a mixture of Kurt Suzuki and David Freitas at the catcher position. Freitas has played in three games and Suzuki seven.
The 31-year-old is batting .279/.376/.446 with 11 homers, 14 doubles, 43 RBIs and 39 runs scored. He’s been very impressive during his time in Atlanta. The Braves have a team option for 2018 to keep Flowers around. My guess is the Braves may offer him another two-year deal (or adding an extra year onto the team option) during this offseason.
"The Braves are hopeful catcher Tyler Flowers will be activated from the disabled list this weekend."
"Flowers was placed on the DL Aug. 30 after taking a foul ball off the wrist during a game in Philadelphia. Flowers was baseball’s best pitch-framer, and paired with Kurt Suzuki to form one of the better catching duos in the majors."
"“I’m hoping this weekend,” said Braves manager Brian Snitker. “He’s been hitting and everything. I’m hoping when his 10 days are up we can get him back active.”"

Braves offering free tickets to Hurricane Irma evacuees in Atlanta this weekend
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: This is simply spectacular. You could use other adjectives to describe this, but I went with spectacular. To see an organization come together and put everything aside for a good cause means so much to what the Braves organization is. With Hurricane Irma causing lots of worrisome thoughts throughout the southeast, the Braves are offering a few hours away from it.
With Hurricane Irma causing lots of worrisome thoughts throughout the southeast, the Braves are offering a few hours away from it. The new reports out right now about Irma doesn’t look good for SunTrust Park either. The Braves are scheduled to play the Miami Marlins through Sunday at home in Georiga, then an off day on Monday the 11th and then travel to Washington to play the Nationals. It looks like Irma may be heading straight towards South Carolina/Georgia around Sunday.
Prayers are definitely going out to everyone involved. Please stay safe and don’t treat this lightly.
"We don’t yet know exactly where powerful Hurricane Irma is headed, but it’s looking increasingly like she’s going to batter the state of Florida. As such, many residents of Florida and even Georgia and South Carolina are under evacuation orders, and some of them are seeking shelter in Atlanta. This reality isn’t lost on the Braves, who happen to be hosting the Marlins for a four-game set that starts Thursday night, and the club has taken this opportunity to perform a good deed. Here’s this from a team press release:"
