Atlanta Braves Morning Chop, box score, All-Star game at SunTrust Park?
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves really needed a solid performance from veteran pitcher R.A. Dickey on Thursday night and they received just that. Our bullpen is shaky and coming off the night on Wednesday, we needed Dickey to go as long as possible. The 42-year-old went eight innings, giving up four hits, two runs, no walks and had four strikeouts. He picked up his 10th win of the season. Arodys Vizcaino came in the game in the 9th inning and closed the door quickly on the Nationals. Three up and three down…all k’s!
The Braves offense had seven hits and scored three runs. Ozzie Albies went 3-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Albies now has a slash line of .283/.360/.457 since his August 1 call-up.
Braves improve to 68-83 for 2017 which matches their 2016 win total. They have 10 more games against teams they can beat — three against the Phillies, four against the Mets and four against the Marlins.

Watch this Braves ballboy scoop a short-hop like a Gold Glove first baseman
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves had some pretty solid defense behind R.A. Dickey on Thursday night — including Dansby Swanson’s diving backward catch which was ESPN’s Top 10 SportCenter’s #9 play this morning.
Dickey allowed only four hits and two runs on Thursday night…which could be his final career home game. He was a little emotional after the game and I got the feeling he thinks it could be his final home start. Dickey will be on the mound again this season, but on the road against the Mets.
Not only did the Braves play great defensively inside the white lines, their ballboy actually made a heck of a play. With what happened at the Yankees game with the little girl, everyone is on edge (and they should be) when a ball is hit foul. This kid needs a contract!
"And now, from Thursday’s Nationals-Braves game, they can add ballboy boy-down-the-third-base-line to that list:"
"Look at that pick. Can you do that? We can’t do that. That Braves fan behind him running for the exit probably couldn’t have done that.Give all of the Braves ballboys Gold Gloves."

Braves making a pitch for All-Star Game at SunTrust Park
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Wouldn’t this be cool?! Turner Field held the 2000 All-Star game and it’s possible 20 years later, the Braves get it again. Atlanta is bidding for a possible return of the All-Star game to Atlanta in 2020, 2021 or 2022. 20 years after the last game would be pretty cool and something they could build excitement about.
If you remember, Bobby Cox and the Braves went to the World Series in 1999 so Cox was rewarded with being the manager of the National League in 2000. I can see this happening again with the Braves going to the World Series in 2019 and then we host the All-Star game in 2020.
With SunTrust Park opening in 2017 and things still developing around it, 2020 would be a perfect timing to schedule the All-Star event. By then, everything will be open and thrilling AND the Braves will be World Series contenders again!
"The Braves are officially bidding to bring Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game to SunTrust Park."
"The event already is committed to Washington and Cleveland the next two years, but MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has said sites for the 2020, 2021 and 2022 games might be announced simultaneously."
"“Derek (Schiller, the Braves’ president of business) has been very active in leading his group to put the bidding process together,” Braves Chairman and CEO Terry McGuirk said. “We’ve been active in town. We’ve been active politically inside baseball among the ownership group. And we’re constant at it. There’s no schedule as to when these things are going to be announced or how many teams are in the running, but it’s a highly competitive situation. But I think we’re looking real good.”"
