Atlanta Braves SP Mike Foltynewicz ”possible he won’t pitch again this season”
By Jeff Schafer
Braves SP Folty could potentially miss the rest of the season
The cut finger heard around Atlanta Braves country. Starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz had to be removed from his September 14th start against the Washington Nationals because of a cut on his finger. That night he only went four innings and had to exit the game without anyone (outside Braves walls) really knowing why. We found out after the game the reason…a cut on his finger.
The 25-year-old has shown signs of brilliance this season and then other times he’s shown he shouldn’t be in the Braves starting rotation.
In 2017, he’s started 28 games with a 4.79 ERA (10-13 record) with 143 strikeouts and 59 walks. Folty has pitched better at SunTrust Park than he has on the road in 2017…holds a 3.95 ERA at home compared to a 5.46 ERA on the road.
Folty started off the season pretty well, but after the All-Star break, things went downhill quickly. Check out these stats through the 2017 months.

Take a look at that month of June. If you’re a fantasy player, you most likely had him this month…I know I did.
Folty 2017 season Over?
After having to exit that September 14 game, we haven’t seen much on Folty. He missed his next start which should have been on September 20 against the Nationals and it sounds like he’ll miss his next start as well.
Atlanta Journal Constitution’s David O’Brien is reporting that manager Brian Snitker told reporters that it’s “possible he won’t pitch again this season.”
When we first found out what the injury was to Folty, I said he’ll probably miss the remainder of the season and it’s looking more and more like he will.
If Folty does miss his next start — Monday, September 25 — he could potentially start another game. After that date, the Braves will have six games left. Also, keep in mind on that Monday the Braves and Mets have a double-header.
The Braves currently have a rotation without Folty that looks like this…Julio Teheran, Sean Newcomb, R.A. Dickey, Lucas Sims, Max Fried, Luiz Gohara…what I’m saying is they’ll have options if Folty isn’t ready. And if we really want to lose a game, we can start Matt Wisler.
The 25-year-old looked to secure a spot in the Braves 2018 starting lineup in his final starts, but it’s looking a little shaky now.

It’s definitely unknown who will be the Braves starting rotation when we get to Opening Day 2018. There’s a good chance Folty is in that rotation and there’s a good chance he’s not in that rotation.
