Braves offense struggle to get things going, Teheran didn’t have much working

The Atlanta Braves offense struggled mightily against 25-year-old starting pitcher Dillon Peters.  It was the Miami Marlins starter’s sixth MLB start of his career.  Going into the game he held a 6.31 ERA with giving up 18 runs in his last four starts and 13 in his last two.

The lefty is ranked #4 in the Marlins 2017 top prospect by MLB pipeline.  On Thursday night, he pitched like he was an MLB Ace.  The Marlins are hoping that’s the case, but we sure hope not.  He looked pretty good tho tonight.

Peters went 5.2 innings pitched, giving up two hits, no runs, four walks and had four strikeouts.  He picked up his first career victory against the Atlanta Braves.

“He looks like he was effectively wild,” Brian Snitker said of Peters.  “He had a hard breaking ball and his fastball was hitting just enough.  The fact that their reactions to those pitches was like we haven’t seen him before.”

On the flips side…Julio Teheran.  Our 26-year-old went six innings, giving up eight hits, five runs, three walks and had three strikeouts.  This was his final start of the 2017 season and finished with a 11-13 record with a 4.49 ERA.

In the 3rd inning, Teheran gave up a leadoff triple, followed by two walks and then three straight singles.  Marlins put four on the board in that inning.

“He had that one inning,” Snit said about Teheran.  “I told him his stuff wasn’t that bad.  Real proud of how he battled throughout the entire year even when he struggled.”

How about some offense

Would love to talk about the Braves offense right about now, but they had only three hits and scored just one run.  The lone run came off the bat of Lane Adams in the top of the 7th inning.

Freddie Freeman and Ozzie Albies had the other two hits on Thursday.

The Marlins offense was a little bit more impressive.  They totaled 13 hits and seven runs.

Giancarlo Stanton went 3-4 at the plate with a walk, three RBIs and three runs scored.  Stanton blasted two homers — one against Teheran and the other against Rex Brothers.  Both were freakin’ bombs.

The second homer had an exit velocity of118.7mph and registered at 467 feet.

Those homers were number 58 and 59 for the 2017 season for Stanton.

Stanton is one home run shy of becoming the sixth player to hit 60 home runs in a season and it would be only the ninth time in MLB history that it’s happened…

As you look down that list, keep in mind those years.  Maybe some enhancers had something to do with those.

But in any case, we haven’t seen 60, or over, since 2001…wow.

Some will say those balls are jacked or the bats are loaded…I don’t know, Stanton is just a beast.  Stinks that the Braves are playing the Marlins to end the season and he could get to 60 against us.

We’ve, and Stanton, have three more games left in the 2017 season.

Atlanta will send Luiz Gohara to the mound while Miami will send Dan Straily.  Game starts at 7:10pm ET at Marlins Park.
