MLB Trade Rumors

NL East Notes: Braves, Harvey, Mets, Jones

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: We probably won’t hear more about the investigation and what/if the Atlanta Braves will be penalized in any way.  The MLB won’t take anything away from the playoffs and these exciting games.  Speaking of, these games have been fun to watch already…and the Washington Nationals lost game one, which is always nice!

Right now, if you read anything about the Braves losing players, draft picks or anything else is just all speculation.  We have no idea what the MLB will find and come back down us with.  It’s best that the Braves organization keeps kind of quiet at these times, they don’t want to say the wrong thing.  That’s probably why you haven’t heard from John Hart, John Schuerholz or Terry Mcguirk yet.

Questions we’re all questioning at this moment is the involvement of the “Johns”.  How much did they know, did they know anything, was John Coppolella the fall guy, was it all Coppy?  You’ve got to think at least Hart knew about the international breach.

"The league’s investigation into the Braves for international signing violations is still ongoing, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports tweets. Indeed, MLB is sending out investigators to chat with club officials this week. It’s doubtful that any results will be released while the postseason is ongoing, but all eyes will be on commissioner Rob Manfred as things progress. The investigation has already resulted in the resignations of Atlanta GM John Coppolella and special assistant Gordon Blakely; at this point, it’s far from clear just where it could go and what kind of fallout might occur."

‘The Freeze’ could be on ice in the Winter Olympics

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: From grounds crew to the Winter Olympics?  Heck yeah!  Nigel Talton, aka The Freeze, will be trying out for the Winter Olympics as a USA Bobsleder.  His past year had to be pretty amazing.  It’s insane what the internet, social media and a simple at-game entertainment idea could turn into.

Talton was on the track team at Iowa Wesleyan and broke many records there.  The dude is straight fast, but ice will be an entirely different beast.  I’m cheering for him and wish him all the best.

With all the distractions already this offseason, this could be one bright spot for our organization.  It’s unknown right now if The Freeze has a contract past 2017.  Hopefully the Braves bring him back…but he may be an United States of America Olympian by then.

"The 2017 season’s biggest phenomenon “The Freeze,” a spandex-clad runner who would race fans at SunTrust Park, is trying to take his game to the next level. And for a man called “The Freeze,” the next level could mean just one thing: the Winter Olympics.Of course, there are no track sports in the Winter Olympics, which means “The Freeze” is using his running prowess in service of another sport. TeamUSA.org reported that “The Freeze” participated in a “rookie push camp” put on by USA Bobsled & Skeleton in September, and will be going back in November to actually step on the ice. (He’s focusing on skeleton, so please put all your “Cool Runnings” jokes away.)“The Freeze” isn’t his real name, of course. (Though that would be seriously amazing.) His name is Nigel Talton, and when he’s not outrunning fans on the SunTrust Park warning track, he’s a member of the Atlanta Braves grounds crew. Talton has never tried bobsledding or the skeleton before, but he’s willing to learn, as he told Karen Price of TeamUSA.org."
