Arizona Fall League

Peoria vs Glendale

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: In game one of the Arizona Fall League (Tuesday), we saw seven of the eight Atlanta Braves players play that are currently with the Peoria Javelinas.  We were all super pumped about the pitching performances from Max Fried, Touki Toussaint, Josh Graham and Corbin Clouse — 8 innings pitched, 16 strikeouts, no runs.  Also, Ronald Acuna, Alex Jackson and Austin Riley got the starts on day one.  Great to see our guys playing over other MLB prospects.

In game two of the AFL, Braves Ronald Acuna got the start as well as Jared James.  Acuna went 1-4 with a single and a strikeout.  James went 0-2 with a walk and a sac fly.  James played left field and Acuna played center.

Peoria faced a recognizable name on the mound…Max Povse.  If you recall, the Braves and John Coppolella traded him to Seattle along with Rob Whalen for Alex Jackson and Tyler Pike.  Povse actually made it up to Seattle in 2017 and appeared in three games.

Peoria lost 5-4

‘The Braves Way’ is dead so it’s time to start over

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: It was a dumb slogan used by Bobby Cox and John Schuerholz three years ago when they were on stage talking about the future and bringing on John Hart.  It was dumb, but catchy as hell and we all piggybacked off of it.  We were just so excited the Braves were going to turn to the next chapter and compete for a potential World Series again!

But it all came crashing down oh so quickly.  This is Bill Shanks article from yesterday so take it for what it’s worth.  But in this article, I do think he’s right on a lot of things.  Especially the “Braves Way” thingy.  Let’s move past it.  Let’s get rid of it.  Let’s never say it again…unless we truly mean it.

One thing from this article that I haven’t wrapped my head around is bringing in Dayton Moore and how that would change this organization.  Moore is a Braves guy who moved on to Kansas City to pursue a GM position.  In 1994, Moore joined the Braves organization as a scout.  Working his way up in Atlanta, Moore accepted the position of Assistant General Manager in August of 2005.  He’s been around Schuerholz and the front office, would it be that huge of a change if we brought Moore in?

I was team Moore when John Coppolella was fired, but now I’m thinking he’s not the best choice if we want a complete overhaul.

"The sad part is many don’t understand what the true meaning of “The Braves Way” really is. It’s not about building through the farm system, with young players, with pitching. It was always about the people. It was about the men who found the prospects, made the young men ballplayers and then tried to play the game the right way.“The Braves Way” was people like Snyder, Cox, Dews, Hank Aaron, Stan Kasten, Brian Snitker, Randy Ingle, Jim Beauchump, Bruce Dal Canton, Leo Mazzone and then Schuerholz, Martinez, Roy Clark and Dayton Moore. The Braves Way was the tremendous scouts who have spent hours on the roads looking for the players to make this organization better.I used the past tense with “The Braves Way” because it died on Oct. 2. It died when the announcement came that the general manager was being forced to resign due to a scandal."
