It seems most of the Braves former prospects released as punishment from the MLB aren’t currently interested in help finding new teams.

Major League Baseball held a workout this week in the Dominican Republic for the dozen Atlanta Braves prospects recently released as free agents, but only a few showed up.

According to a report from Ben Badler for Baseball America, only three of the 12 players with newly voided contracts bothered to attend a workout for big league scouts on Monday.

The three prospects that came to showcase their skills were Antonio Sucre and Brandol Mezquita, both outfielders, and shortstop Angel Rojas.

The report states that the players who failed to show up for the workout didn’t think the league gave them enough notice to prepare themselves this far into the off season.

Beginning next week, any of Atlanta’s voided prospects will be eligible to sign with any other MLB club, meanwhile keeping their original Braves signing bonus. Teams will have a $200 thousand incentive per player in international bonus pool cash. Anything below that in new bonus will not count towards each team’s total pool allowance.

For those of you new to baseball, or emerging from your summer cave dwelling, the Atlanta Braves parted ways with GM John Copallela after the season, prior to an MLB investigation into the team’s dealings in the international market. An investigation found rules were broken in that area resulting in the voided contracts in question.
