It starts up in earnest first thing in Monday morning – Baseball’s biggest off-field event of the year.  Here’s what to expect.

Events are technically already under way at the Disney World Dolphin resort, and the Atlanta Braves have already made some additional news.

A significant part of the event is devoted to a good old-fashioned job fair.  The Professional Baseball Employment Opportunities (PBEO, PBEO.com) is running that part of the event.  It’s the way those who want to break into the business of baseball can get a start, with most every team conducting interviews and accepting resumes for 400-500 positions annually – mostly internships and entry-level jobs.

It’s simply the place to get started for those who want to participate in the business of baseball.

The PBEO Job Fair runs for four days – Sunday through Thursday – but there’s a couple of folks who already have a new job…. without PBEO being necessary.

This is AA putting the band back together – plus a couple of new instrumentalists.  Tamin had essentially the same tasking with the Dodgers while Anthopoulos was there.  As the AJC reports, he was their go-to-guy for insuring that the rules are followed for handling players and their contracts.

Paré is coming in from the Marlins, but was a hire of theirs from – yes, the Blue Jays.  The 31-year-old was named their Senior Director of Analytics – something the Marlins needed help with, but also something the Blue Jays had already been doing – under the leadership of Anthopoulos.

Well, that was then (the Winter of 2015-16).  The Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel wrote about Paré and his fledgling Analytics Department a year later, with the hope that they could play catch up with the rest of baseball.

Oops… he’s no longer working for the Fish.  Seems they’ve had more than just a few changes lately.

Meanwhile – the Braves seem to be finding their mojo:

For sure:  Anthopoulos knows what he wants to get done, and he’s clearly making a point to bring with him a number of people that he has built relationships with over his years as an executive.

That’s a good thing.

Next: Shopping for Outfielders? Interesting

Because, after all, what we crave are the trades… those happening from the meetings between General Managers that you don’t see on any published schedule.
