Braves could bring back Pendleton and Perez after all

In what may seem like unlikely news, the Atlanta Braves may bring back Terry Pendleton AND Eddie Perez in some sorts of coaching capacity for the 2018 season.

After a 16-year run as a member of the Braves coaching staff, the Braves announced towards the end of October that Pendleton will not be returning as the bench coach.

Perez has been a member of the Braves coaching staff for the past 11 seasons.  The Braves also said that he won’t be returning as the first base coach at the end of October (with the Pendleton announcement).

In the Atlanta-Journal Constitution article by David O’Brien back at the end of October, he mentioned TP and Perez might be retained in front-office or other organizational roles.

Well, it sounds as though it’s the later.  O’Brien mentioned on Twitter that Perez and Pendleton will return as “roving instructors, working mostly with minor leaguers”

I think this is the perfect position for these guys…granted they want the positions.  It’s time for a change within the Braves coaching staff and unfortunately these two great guys were the fall guys.

For the young guys, it’s a great opportunity for them to learn under two guys with so much MLB experience.  Pendleton played in the MLB for 15-years — 4 1/2 years with the Braves.  Perez played 11 years in the MLB and nine with the Braves.

Combined their playing days with their coaching days, you can’t get much more experience than that.  These guys have seen it all.  A great way for the young guns to learn.

Braves hired Walt Weiss as the 2018 bench coach to replace Pendleton.  The first base coach for 2018 has not been made public yet.

**Correction: Eric Young Sr will be the Braves first base coach**

Next: Why is Adonis Garcia still on the Braves 40-man roster?

Pendleton — 57-years-old — and Perez — 49-years-old — were both in the running for the Braves managerial role just last season and now both will not be coaching in 2018.  It’s crazy what a year can do.
