Atlanta Braves: a few players have changed their jersey numbers for 2018
By Jeff Schafer
Braves new jersey numbers, some new faces, some old faces
Day one of ChopFest was a success! Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the Atlanta Braves festivities this year, but living through everyone else’s photos and tweets, it looked like a wonderful time. Sunday, it looks like it may rain a bit, but that shouldn’t stop anyone.
After such a slow offseason, it’s great to see a bit of news. Yesterday, we got just what we asked for. Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos spoke to the media about the offseason and the upcoming season, Freddie Freeman told us he had surgery over the offseason, the Braves announced their new mascot…Blooper…, and something I’m most excited about…jersey numbers!
You never know when a player decides to change the number he wears on his back day in and day out. These offseason months could be slow for the players as well and one day they think “oh, let’s change it up a bit”. This doesn’t “usually” happen to the bigger stars in the MLB that stay with the same team, but it does happen.
On Saturday and Sunday, Braves players wore their 2018 jerseys to ChopFest. This is how I got most of my data for this project. It was fun digging through people’s photos to find this out. So far, this is what I’ve collected. If you have any updates, let me know!
One thing I’m seeing though, Charlie Culberson is now wearing a number that was previously worn in 2017 by a player that is still on the roster.
Players on the 40-man roster

#ChopFest is great for the fans. Since we’re past December and almost into February, nothing gets you more excited about the upcoming season than these types of events. I applaud all Braves players and former greats for being there. Bobby Cox and Dale Murphy were in attendance.
We’ll see who shows up on Sunday!
