Braves minor league system is stout, we ranked them 1-100

It’s a great time to be an Atlanta Braves fan.  Not because our major league team has a shot at the World Series this season or even a guaranteed playoff spot — I think we’ll be fighting for a Wild Card spot — but because we’ve got such a bright future!

By now, you’ll most likely seen the MLB top prospect lists…at least one…in all, the Braves are dominating.  In MLB Pipeline and Baseball American, they have eight prospects in the list.  In Keith Law’s top 100, they have 11 prospects!

This list, we give you 100!

Former Tomahawk Take writer and now Call To The Pen writer, Benjamin Chase continues to pump out great material.  Today, he published his revised top 100 Atlanta Braves prospects for 2018.  This is revised from when he did this exercise back in November of 2017.

A few things have happened since then…the 12 players that were removed from our organization because of the International investigation, winter league stats, and the rise/fall of a few prospects.

Ben is a great source for Atlanta Braves minor league players.  He studies and watches games from each affiliates.  He knows his stuff.

I’m going to go through all prospects, you’ll have to go to his page for this, but let’s go through a few.

Braves Top 10

  • 1. Ronald Acuna, OF
  • 2. Mike Soroka, RHP
  • 3. Luiz Gohara, LHP
  • 4. Kyle Wright, RHP
  • 5. Cristian Pache, OF
  • 6. Kolby Allard, LHP
  • 7. Max Fried, LHP
  • 8. Austin Riley, 3B
  • 9. Bryse Wilson, RHP
  • 10. Ian Anderson, RHP

As you see from the list, it’s different from many other sites.  And this is why I like it!  Soroka is ranked #2 on this list, pretty high but well deserving.  He’s a stud.

Pache, Riley and Wilson all in the top 10 makes me smile a bit.  Pache in the top five!  I’m pretty excited to watch Pache climb up the Braves minor league system in 2018.

Also, don’t sleep on Bryse Wilson.  Keith Law had him ranked #68 overall in baseball.  The 20-year-old starting pitcher spent all of 2017 in Rome, and will most likely jump up to the Florida Fire Frogs.

Another interesting note is that he slid Allard and Anderson down the list a bit.  Still very high ranked prospects and they really didn’t do anything wrong to slide, I think it’s just that we’ve got some much talent a the top of our minor league affiliates.

More from Braves News

  • 11. Alex Jackson, C
  • 12. Touki Toussaint, RHP
  • 13. William Contreras, C
  • 14. Tucker Davidson, LHP
  • 15. Joey Wentz, LHP
  • 16. Patrick Weigel, RHP
  • 17. A.J. Minter, LHP
  • 18. Dustin Peterson, OF
  • 19. Drew Waters, OF
  • 20. Kyler Muller, LHP

William Contreras is a name you should begin remembering.  The young catcher looks very talented and should move up the chain in 2018.  Kyle Glaser of Baseball America gave Contreras some very high praise.

Two catchers within the top 13!  Not too shabby.  Plus, these two are on their way up.

Waters will be another one to watch in 2017.  He should be given an opportunity in Rome this season.
