Early fantasy projections: Braves’ value and stats

Hell yeah! It’s on! — it’s fantasy baseball season!  In recent years, the Atlanta Braves have only had a few players within the window of a “fantasy value” pick.  Now we’re starting to have a bunch!

We’re a month and a few days away from Opening Day 2018, but it’s really never to early to talk about fantasy baseball.  I’ve already renewed all my leagues and started to think about keepers.  It’s that time of year that we’re planning on draft dates and scouting players like no one else’s business.

Fantasy projections are always funny to watch.  Anyone can give their own opinions on how they think a player will do or any computer program spitting out data, but it doesn’t matter…we’re all going to check it out.

So when MLB.com put out their most recent projection stats and fantasy values, of course I’m going to read it.  Of course I’m looking to see where my keepers could be slotted in.  AND of course I’m looking to see where they’re placing Atlanta Braves players.

As I looked down MLB’s list, they gave a ranking and stats for 805 players.  That’s pretty insane and a lot of work.  Good for MLB.com.

The Atlanta Braves have 26 players listed.  Not too shabby I guess, but out of that many players you would hope to have that many…or more.  The Yankees have 30 players.

So where do the Braves players rank in their list of 805?  Let’s find out now…

730. Preston Tucker OF – .248 BA, 20 R, 6 HR, 19 RBI, 1 SB

724. Danny Santana OF – .235 BA, 24 R, 2 HR, 18 RBI, 7 SB

706. Lucas Sims RHP – 4.86 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 40 K’s, 2-4

Going off MLB.com’s projections, they aren’t too high on the Braves left side of the infield.  Camargo and Swanson both are ranked pretty low.  If you’re in the camp that the Braves should sign Mike Moustakas, he’s ranked number 188 overall.

On the flip side, MLB.com is pretty high on Albies and Acuna.  Their man-crush on Angels pitcher/hitter continues as he is ranked number 91 overall.  Speaking of…will Shohei Ohtani be a pitcher or hitter in fantasy?

The Braves will definitely have some fantasy sleepers in 2018.  Next step in the fantasy world, to do some mock drafts.  It’s going to be interesting to see how early Acuna and Ozzie go.
