McCarthy is expecting to return to mound just days after dislocating shoulder

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher, Brandon McCarthy, is telling reporters that he’ll be back on the mound on his next schedule start which would be next Tuesday, April 17th.

Why should this come as a surprise?  On Wednesday, the Braves last game against the Washington Nationals, the 34-year-old partially dislocated his left shoulder.  The correct terminology would be a left shoulder subluxation which means partial dislocated.  He was listed as day-to-day, but come on…that’s gotta be painful or takes time to heal, right?

680 the Fan’s Kevin McAlpin saw McCarthy earlier today and he told him he was feeling good.

McCarthy was covering first base when the injury happened.  Freddie Freeman fielded the ball and gave McCarthy a little underhand throw to first.  McCarthy was a little in front of the throw and had to reach back a little.  When he did so, he felt his shoulder pop out-of-place.  He immediately reached for his left arm and called for the Braves trainer.

On the video replay of FOX Sports South, you can see the trainer and McCarthy pop his shoulder back into place.

After the game, McCarthy told reporters that it’s not the first time this has happened to him.  In 2017, when he was a part of the LA Dodgers, the same injury happened while he was in the weight room.  He was placed on the 10-day DL that time.

Doesn’t sound like the case this go around.  Braves manager continues to say he’s expecting McCarthy to be on the mound for his next start.

You never want to see an injury or anything bad happen to someone, but when it happens, it’s great to find some humor somehow.  Well, McCarthy’s wife, Amanda definitely did that for us.

If you don’t follow Brandon or Amanda, you’re missing out.  They’re actually extremely humorous on social media.  Hopefully we’ll see the big 6’8″ 225-pounder on the mound on Tuesday and hopefully Amanda sees him doing a few chores around the house!
